Alan was born in London in 1970, his mother is German, his father English. He is self taught. Alan believes that his schizophrenia has been the passion and inspiration of his painting, and that his painting has been the stimulus for the suppression of his schizophrenic symptoms. He paints obsessively and prolifically. He showed with the Treadwell Gallery from 1994 to 1998, and although the gallery successfully sold his work, it was not enough to satisfy Alan, and in 1999 he left England for New York, where he has been selling his work on the streets there and in other cities round the USA. He now calls himself Alan Streets, and has had considerable publicity as regards his manner making his art living as well as the overcoming of his mental illness through his talent and passion.
